Acceptable Risk in Depictions of Theatrical Violence

Acceptable Risk in Depictions of Theatrical Violence is a lecture based workshop delving into the world and intricacies of theatrical violence found in staged plays, musicals, and other performance types. This workshop seeks to bridge the divide between the role of the Fight Director, and the role of the Intimacy Director, providing a unique, combined approach to scenes of stage combat and intimacy violence through a trauma-informed lens. By developing the participants' ability to identify possible violence in scripts, broadening their scope of knowledge of the many varieties of violent non-consensual scenarios that might be encountered (I.E: Physical Violence, Targeted Gendered Violence, Micro Violence, etc), and empowering participants by providing them with practical tools to successfully navigate these kinds of commonly overlooked scenarios, this workshop culminates in an hour long exploration of how to reduce harm towards actors while performing theatrical violence, as…
