The term Intimacy encompasses a wide range of scenarios, beyond sexual scenes: from a stage kiss to implied nudity to scenes of sexual violence, even medical content and beyond. Similar to fight direction, intimacy coordination (film and television) and intimacy direction (theatre) bring together an expert understanding of consent, communication, and specialized choreography to any project. The process entails collaborating with the entire production team, starting with the Director Call, and analyzing the script's requirements, to then establishing and maintaining the Actor's boundaries and needs for the duration of the project. In addition the Intimacy Director acts as a legal liaison, familiar with the laws and guidelines around intimacy on stage and screen, and brings an expert eye as each intimacy scene is carefully choreographed and set within the story being asked.
